Bearss, Daniel R., 1809-1884
Biographical notes:
A native of New York, Bearss moved west with his family to Ohio and Michigan before coming to Indiana in 1828. Bearss worked in various mercantile businesses in northern Indiana before moving to Peru, Miami County, in 1834. He expanded his business to include real estate and railroad interests, and served in the Indiana House and Senate.

A native of Geneseo, New York, Bearss moved to Indiana in 1828 and worked as an Indian trader and merchant in Fort Wayne, Logansport, and Goshen before settling in Peru. Around 1850 he retired from the mercantile business to attend to his real estate holdings; business interests, especially railroads; and political activities. Bearss held local and state offices, and served in the state house and senate. He died in Hot Springs, Ark., after traveling there for health reasons, and is buried in Peru, Ind.
