Daniel Hoffman was a poet and a member of the Department of English Literature at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania.

Daniel Hoffman -- scholar, writer and teacher -- was born in New York and educated at Columbia University, receiving his Ph.D. there in 1956. He pursued a distinguished academic career, producing several scholarly works including; The seminal form and fable in American fiction (1961).
Hoffman has also published more than seven volumes of poetry. As a poet and scholar, he has won several awards and honors including the Columbia University Medal for Excellence (1964). Hoffman was also a National Endowment for the Humanities research fellow, 1975-76.
