Physician and educator. Samuel Henry Dickson was born in Charleston, South Carolina and received his M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1819. Dickson practiced in Charleston and became dean of the Medical College of South Carolina. In 1847 he moved to New York, and in 1857 he became a professor at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
