Biographical notes:

Dr. Joseph W. Eaton, appointed professor of social work research in January of 1959 also received a joint appointment to the Graduate School of Public Health. In 1974, his appointment moved to the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs where he remained until his retirement on December 31, 1989. Born in Nuremberg, Germany on September 28, 1919, he emigrated to New York in 1934, and married Helen Goodman in 1947. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in Sociology in 1940 and a Ph. D. from Columbia University in 1948.
