Biographical notes:

English author Robert Nichols was known as a World War I poet and playwright. Educated at Winchester College and Oxford, he served as an artillery officer in World War I, before being discharged with shell shock. He wrote poetry, giving readings to large crowds, and was part of a group of British artists sent to America. After the war, he became part of England's literary circle, served as professor of English literature at the University of Tokyo, and lived for a time in Austria and France. He eventually published several volumes of poetry, two novels, and had four plays produced, including the Broadway hit, Wings over Europe.
