Land speculator. Wadsworth was involved in a large land speculation scheme in western New York State, the land eventually became part of the Holland Purchase.

Born in Durham, Conn. Taught for a short time after graduating from Yale, then became a land agent for his uncle, Jeremiah Wadsworth, along the Genesee River. With his brother William, he settled in what is now Geneseo, where they acquired large tracts of land.
