Geologist and professor. Born in 1859 in Nashville, Tennessee. Moved to Comanche, Texas in 1875. Attended Cornell University. Worked as a geologist for the United States Geographical Survey under the direction of John Wesley Powell and surveyed regions of the Southwest. Also taught at the University of Texas. Died in 1941.

Robert Thomas Hill (1858-1941) was born on August 11, 1858, in Nashville Tennessee. He was a geologist known for his work in Texas. Hill received his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell in 1886. Upon graduating, he took a position with the U.S. Geological Survey where he worked as an assistant paleontologist, assistant geologist, and then as geologist from 1888-1904. Hill wrote 150 articles on geology, stratigraphy, and geography during his career, many relating to Texas. He produced reports on underground water resources that proved invaluable to the development of Texas' farms and industry. Hill was a founding member of many professional societies including the Geologic Society of America, Washington Academy of Science, American Society of Professional Geographers, Society of Economic Geologists, Texas Historical Society, and others. He died on July 28, 1941.
