Born February 21, 1930. Graduated Presbyterian College, 1951; received LLB, George Washington University in 1957 and LLM, Georgetown University in 1959. U.S. Army service 1951-1953. Administrative assistant to Strom Thurmond 1955-1965; chairman, South Carolina Republican Party 1965-1968. Deputy counsel 1968-1969 and special counsel 1969-1972 to President Nixon; general counsel to Republican National Committee 1973-1974; President's representative to Sabine River Compact Administration 1977-; member, advisory committee to Campaign Advising Service, Republican National Committee 1978- Partner, Dent and Kennedy 196501968; partner, Whaley, McCutchen, Blanton and Dent 1973-1974; senior partner, Dent, Kirkland, Taylor and Wilson 1975- Chairman, South Carolina Billy Graham Crusade 1986-1987. Harry Shuler Dent (b. 1930) was chief assistant to U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond from 1955 to 1965 and Deputy Counsel and Special Counsel to President Richard M. Nixon from 1968 to 1972. His responsibilities in the White House included liaison with the southern states and Federal agencies. He also served Southern campaign manager for Republican presidential candidates Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, and Gerald Ford. He was chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party from 1965 to 1968, and was general counsel for the Republican National Committee from 1973 to 1974.
