Jennings urges Martz to declare himself a candidate for re-election to the House of Delegates for Rockingham County, Va., along with William B. Yancey although there was some dissatisfaction among constituents that he voted against the convention bill. Jennings also discusses a possible claim to an English estate and asks Martz if he could find any proof in records in Richmond.

Title: Correspondence, 1862.

A three page letter dated Aug. 17, 1862, addressed to "Brother" who had just enlisted. Jennings mentions his smart little daughter, Addey Idelan. The letter was sent from North Springfield (Ill.). A note on the envelope and the back of the letter states the letter was retrieved from a rebel knapsack after the battle of South Mountain.
