Contains the following types of materials: memoirs, diary / journal, autobiography. Contains information pertaining to the following wars and time periods: Spanish-American War, World War I (WWI), World War II (WWII). Contains information pertaining to the following military units and organizations: 9th Cavalry Regiment; 24th Infantry Regiment; Hospital Medical Corps. General description of the collection: The Richard Johnson papers include copies of his two memoirs written by Johnson in the early 1950s. One traces his career in the U.S. Army at various posts in Kentucky, California, Nebraska, Arizona, New Mexico, and the Philippines, where he served in the Infantry, 1899-1904, and in the Hospital (Medical) Corps, 1904-1922. Much of his duty in the latter capacity was at various post hospitals, but occasionally, he was attached to field forces which included the 9th Cavalry, 24th Infantry, various detachments of the Philippine Scouts and Constabulary, and the Philippine National Guard Division raised during WWI. The other recollection covers his experiences in the Philippines during WWII (particularly while an internee in the Santo Tomas Camp, but also for a month before being captured and for three months after he was liberated.).

Zelikovsky, Abe,. Oral history interview with Abe Zelikovsky, Dec. 3, 1979.
Title:
Oral history interview with Abe Zelikovsky, Dec. 3, 1979.
Zelikovsky discusses his parents' emigration and the family's life in China. His father's fur business had posts in Harbin, Mukden, Tientsin, and Shanghai, so the family moved between these cities. He describes the Jewish community in China and his early education in the Jewish schools. He also comments on the Japanese government favoring Jews in the 1910s and 1920s, and the kindly treatment of Jewish refugees in Shanghai after Hitler's rise to power. At the time of the Pearl Harbor bombing, Zelikovsky's father had already moved to the United States, but the rest of the family had only traveled as far as Manila. His mother, being officially stateless, decided to enter the University of Santo Thomas internment camp. Zelikovsky, his mother, and his sister remained there for three years before arriving in New York in 1945. Zelikovsky discusses their journey to the United States, his college years, and his professional career. He also mentions the career of his mother, Ida Zelikovsky Green Lassers, as a pianist.
