Papers consist of financial and business records, family correspondence, a diary, and other items. Business and financial records include correspondence, conveyances, receipts, stock certificates (for shares in the Charleston Sugar Refining Co., the Georgia Railroad and Banking Co., and other companies), tax returns, mortgages, and other items. Correspondence mainly concerns real estate transactions and debt collections. Correspondents include George R. Fairbanks and Peter B. Boutan of St. Augustine, Fla., and others. Family correspondence consists of two letters (1825,1833) from Conner to his mother and sister regarding family financial affairs and the Marquis de Lafayette's visit to Charleston, and a letter (16 July 1838) to his wife Julia A.M. Conner about his travels in England and Europe. A commonplace book (1850s) contains passages on economics, tensions between the non-slaveholding states and the South, states' rights, U.S. commerce, and other subjects; a few clippings are pasted into the book. Other items include copies of the will (1834) of James Conner (1751-1835) and the will (1861) of Henry W. Conner; a legal opinion (1845) regarding surety bonds on clerks employed by the Bank of Charleston; and inventories of Henry W. Conner's properties, inlcluding real estate in several states, slaves and other personal property, and investment and business interests.

Personal, correspondence, books, business records, and writing materials. These letters also include sketches of Anderson Station Stockade, fortifications, camps and hospitals, descriptions of Civil War in Florida, Confederate and southern poems. His business papers discuss real estate matters, timber rights, the Palatka sawmill, the Bulow Plantation, maps, surveys, correspondence and other materials. He also includes political papers and materials on Florida history, including local histories of Nassau county, war with the Indians, the Oglethorp expedition, and Florida authors, including a law suit against Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings related to her book, Cross Creek. Materials related to the writings of George Rainsford Fairbanks are also in the collection including newspaper clippings, press notices, and examples of his work. The collection also contains some materials on religion, including the diocese of South Florida and the Episcopal church. Some of the materials related to St. Augustine, New Smyrna and Daytona Beach are housed in the Florida vertical files, and many of the books in the collection have been cataloged and stored separately, and can be viewed upon request.

Correspondence, newspaper clippings. Later newspaper clippings describe Fairbanks as the author of the first great history of Florida and the battle flag to be raised over the Shiloh battlefield monument which was first used by Fairbanks' brother Jason Fairbanks.

The collection consists of papers relating mainly to John Beard as U.S. Marshal for the District of East Florida from 1843-1852. The letters concern mostly land claims and pension requests. Of particular interest are a letter from Beard to George R. Fairbanks, dated February 7, 1847, discussing the sale of land in East Florida, the benefits derived from the sale, and the disorganization of the land sales process and an 1882 letter from Mary Elizabeth (Mrs. J.J.) Dickison to George R. Fairbanks discussing matters relating to the Civil War in Florida.
