The Logan Temple Time Books reflect labor time spent on the construction of the Logan Temple in Logan, Utah from 1877 to 1884. Cache Valley farmers divided their time between farming and contributing labor at the temple block. Originally 127 time books were kept, each containing the number and names of laborers, their place of residence, wages, type of work performed and number of days worked. These titled notebooks include: Franklin Quarry (4 books); Green Canyon Quarry (11 books); Hyde Park Quarry (3 books); Lime Kiln (6 books); Saw Mill (24 books); Wood Camp (9 books); Temple Block (7 books). Other contributions in-kind were listed in various accounts contained in the temple ledger books, consisting of five volumes and covering the years 1877-86. Though the three time books held in Utah State University Special Collections and Archives are available for scholarly use, the remaining time books and ledgers held at the Historical Department Archives of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Salt Lake City, Utah, are not accessible to scholars. A temple district in northern Utah had been organized under Brigham Young's direction and was comprised of Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties. The nine acre temple site was chosen by President Young and dedicated by the prayer of Orson Pratt on 17 May, 1877. Charles Ora Card, a sawmill operator, was appointed superintendent of construction on 21 May, 1877. The temple was dedicated on 17 May, 1884 by President John Taylor. Constructed from local materials, at completion, the temple measured 171 feet long, 95 feet wide, and 86 feet high at the square.

The third book names women who did the cleaning, sewing and other work from March 14 to May 24, 1884, before and immediately following the dedication of the Temple by President John Taylor, on May 17, 1884.

Photocopies of microfilm copies of a handwritten diary. Parkinson wrote about his life as a Mormon in Franklin, Idaho. He told about working in Franklin's bookstore, going into the canyons to cut lumber, and working on a farm. He also wrote about the death of Brigham Young, second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days, and floating logs down the Logan River to be used in the construction of the Mormon temple in Logan, Utah. He married Ellen Nash and served on a mission for the Mormon Church in Great Britain. He told about his voyage to Britiain, his activities as a missionary, and he included a genealogy of his father's family. He included a list of contacts while on his mission and also a list of expenses.

Early education; youthful labors; LDS baptism, 1845; immigration to America, 1848; move to DeKalb County, Illinois, 1848; arrival in the Salt Lake Valley, 1852; settlement in Little Cottonwood, Utah; move to Cedar Fort, Utah, 1854; marriage to Catherine Thomas, 1857; move to Wellsville, Utah, to teach school, 1860; call to Great Britain on a mission, 1871; county officer in Cache County; service as clerk during the construction of the Logan Temple; assistant temple recorder; marriage to Mary Ann Porch.

Two letters exchanged between Andrew Borgeson and Joseph F. Smith, an apostle in the Mormon Church, concerning the former being sealed by adoption into the family of Hyrum Smith. In the first letter, Andrew Borgeson refers to an earlier meeting with Joseph F. Smith where Smith discussed the subject of adoption sealings. Smith's reply explains that these sealings are currently available at the St. George Temple and can be performed by himself or his cousin, John L. Smith. Smith also adds that within approximately six months the Logan Temple would be completed, and the sealing could be performed there.
