Colonel Hamilton is in charge of a munitions storehouse and would like access to ammunition for practicing. He also wants insurance to be taken out on the storehouse with safety responsibility given to Colonel Hamilton and Commissary-General Storms. Written at Long Island, N.Y.

Papers, 1775-1848. The collection contains correspondence and other material, as well as facsimiles and nineteenth-century transcripts of letters by Stevens, and correspondence with Samuel and John Stevens, dating from the 1840s, which suggests that they were assembling the collection and doing research in preparation for a biography of Ebenezer Stevens. The first volume contains material dated 1790-1800; the bulk of it dates from 1798, and much of it concerns the fortification of New York Harbor, including a number of letters from James McHenry and Joseph Frano̧is Mangin. The second volume contains correspondence, accounts, etc., 1797-1800. Subjects include ordnance, fortification of New York Harbor, including a diagram of a floating mine, and other military matters. The third volume is mostly made up of documents related to Stevens's service during the Revolution, when he served in an independent artillery battalion and in the 2nd New York Artillery Regiment. The documents include payrolls, accounts, receipts, returns, commissions, and a summary of war casualties, 1775-1781, as well as correspondence. Many of the receipts and returns deal with supplies of clothing for the troops. Stevens's correspondents include Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, John Jay, John Jacob Astor, Henry Knox, Lafayette, and Rufus King. The first two volumes contain indexes of correspondents.
