The broadsides are divided into two series, the first organized by state and the second organized by departments of the federal government. The first series is arranged alphabetically by state, and chronologically thereafter. The second series contains folders for departments of the federal government which are filed alphabetically, and thereafter chronologically. In the front of the first folder for each state or department are photocopies of the processor's notes for the folder's contents. The finding aid identifies the content for each folder including subjects of the broadsides, selected names of individuals, and span dates for the materials in the folder. Note that a number of oversized broadsides are located in flat files. Contains about 2,000 state and federal Mexican broadsides, publicly distributed documents, issued by various offices of the federal, state, municipal, and local governments during the 19th and early 20th-centuries. Topics referred to in these broadsides include invasions by Spain, France and the United States of America; mobilization for wars, including the Mexican American War; soldiers; elections; government positions; decretos (decrees); courts; prisoners; and financial issues, such as taxes, budgets, and customs. Often the broadsides in the individual state folders contain information from the federal government which the governor of the state released and signed. Some documents refer to the political conflicts between those who supported the Roman Catholic Church and those who advocated rigorous anti-clericalism. Also included are specific Plans, a 19th-century aspect of Mexican political culture whereby a military or political leader would publish a Plan, usually named after where it was issued, and gauge response to it. Selected individuals mentioned in the broadsides include: Gilardo Gomez, Alberto Betancourt, J. Trinidad Alamillo, Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana, Augustine de Iturbide, Anastasio Bustamante, and Benito Juarez.

Letters from the director of the health service for the French fleet that was sent to San Juan de Ulúa to enforce payment of reparations to French nationals in Mexico (the "Pastry War") Two were written to Ferré's wife and daughters, the remainder addressed to his "son," Henri Moulin, a Parisian lawyer left in charge of the writer's domestic affairs and apparently the widower of one of Ferré's daughters. The papers deal in part with preparations for the naval expedition, seizure of San Juan de Ulúa, French-Mexican peace treaty, the civil war in Mexico, political conditions in Portugal, and Anglo-Mexican relations, but also contain much personal material. Sent from towns or harbors of France and the Gulf of Mexico.

Manuscript, probably a copy, signed twice by Frejes, to Anastasio Bustamante, Captain General of the Provincias Internas. Frejes summarizes events of the last few years in Texas, especially the Indian wars. He criticizes the Spanish government for not doing more to protect the interests of Spanish settlements in Texas and for disregarding missionaries' criticisms of the military and other civil authorities. He recommends making treaties with the indigenous tribes, and encourages further settlements (including additional missions) and establishment of free trade. He speculates on the likelihood of foreign (especially American) incursions into Texas, given the lack of defenses on the coast of Texas, and recommends fortifying the boundary with the United States.

Manuscripts and printed material relating primarily to the Mexican independence movement, but also pertaining to conditions in Mexico at the end of the 18th century, the empire of Agustín Iturbide, the establishment of the republic, and Mexico's governance and foreign relations, especially with England, France, Spain, and the U.S. Many historical figures of Mexico are represented in the collection. The Manuscripts subgroup, in which over half the items date from 1820 to 1825, includes letters, descriptions of battles, records of insurgents' trials, military service records, documents concerning the conspiracy of Manuel Reyes, the archives of General José de la Cruz, many personal papers of José Mariano Michelena, and material gathered by Carlos María Bustamante to document the independence movement. The Printed Material subgroup, in which the bulk of the items are dated 1822-1823, contains among its pamphlets and broadsides many literary productions, such as manifestos, speeches, odes, poetry, sermons, and pastoral letters, as well as decrees, circulars, and proclamations. Most items in Printed Materials pertain to independence, the empire of Iturbide, and the early days of the republic.

Letters pertaining to García's 1829-1834 term as governor of Zacatecas. Thirty-two of the letters are from Antonio López de Santa Anna and are dated 1832-1834. They concern Mexican politics, government, and the military, including such subjects as foreign relations, the constitution, elections, the federal and state (Zacatecas) legislatures, military insurrections, and the actions of various political and military figures. The majority of the letters were written during Santa Anna's first presidency, and many are attempts to win García to Santa Anna's centralist ideas and his goals of unifying the political parties and the country. Four letters were written to García by Anastasio Bustamante in October 1832; they are mostly about the presence of federal troops in Zacatecas and Bustamante's desire for a meeting with García. An item dated July 19, 1857, from officials at the Presidio de San José de la Ysla to the Comisario de San Pedro concerns preparations for hostilities between Mexico and Spain.

The Archives subgroup includes correspondence (bulk 1821) relating mostly to Iturbide's activities as Generalísimo Almirante (correspondents include political leaders such as Vicente Guerrero and Antonio Medina) and printed material, mostly proclamations issued by Iturbide's government but including leaflets from the opposition as well as periodicals and broadsides from 1838 announcing Iturbide's status as a "First Hero of Mexican Independence." The Manuscripts subgroup comprises official documents including treaties and acts of Iturbide's government and of successor governments that relate to Iturbide (filed as G390); a photostat of a concordat between Iturbide and the Church (G406); a manuscript of Iturbide's memoir written in Italy, bound with leaflets and pamphlets relating to Iturbide (G414); and contemporary copies of letters from Juan Gómez Navarrete, Vicente Filisola, and José Dávila, among others (G388).
