Emily Tennyson Letters, 1858-1873.
This collection documents the friendship between the Tennyson and Gatty families, as revealed by letters written from Emily Lady Tennyson (1813-1896) to Margaret Gatty (1809-1873). Lady Tennyson's letters expose many aspects of daily life in the Tennyson household, including the progress of Lord Tennyson's writing and various business dealings, family travels, and the health of the children. In addition, the letters include the responses of Lord and Lady Tennyson to books written by both Mr. and Mrs. Gatty.

Letters of Alfred Tennyson, 1859-1876.
Tennyson sends unidentified correspondents thanks for a book and photographs of a house and the "Holy Grail"; asks Edward Moxon to forward some letters; tells an unidentified correspondent to apply to King & Co. for permission to include "Lotus-eaters" in a publication; and thanks Theodore Martin for a volume of his biography of the Prince Consort. Of interest is a [draft?] of a letter to Charles Kegan Paul expressing Tennyson's displeasure that a volume of his poems were incorrectly illustrated with views of his houses rather than vignettes applicable to the poems, an error he calls a "Yankeeism." In an 1868 letter, Emily Tennyson thanks an unidentified correspondent for his "brave & kind & flattering defence." In an 1869 letter she thanks W.C. Bennet for a poem. In an 1869 letter, Lionel Tennyson thanks W.C. Bennett for a book. In an 1869 letter, Hallam Tennyson thanks an unidentified correspondent for a present.

There is also a letter (copy?) from Paul éCernây, a Czech admirer, 1881 June 12.

Signed "Janotha." Indicates that May would be better for her, since she will be on tour in Poland in April. She would "play with joy - as much as the program would need." Suggests that perhaps Lyttelton "could kindly sing some new songs of Lady Tennyson." Correspondent's address appears as 51 N. B[on?]d St.
