This collection of the papers of E. I. du Pont was amassed by his descendant, Pierre S. du Pont (1870-1954). The main body of E. I. du Pont's papers descended through Henry Algernon du Pont to Henry Francis du Pont and now forms part of the Hagley Museum & Library's Winterthur Manuscripts.

This is a journal of unusual quality, kept by a young man who had already spent two years in school in his father's native Switzerland. The entries are very descriptive. The author landed at Liverpool and proceeded to London; his descriptions of Blenheim Palace and Oxford are excellent. These are followed by very detailed accounts of Paris and Versailles. He visited Rouen, Nantes, Toulouse, Montpellier, Nimes, Avigon, Aix-en-Provence, Marseilles, Genoa, Pavia, Milan, Bologna, Florence, Pisa, Rome, Naples, and Pompeii. Volume I ends with Cazenove's arrival at Terni, on his way northward in Italy, on 7 May 1830.

Cazenove, Anthony Charles, 1775-1852. Papers, 1791-1852, bulk 1792-1796.

The bulk of this material consists of letters received by Anthony-Charles Cazenove from friends, contemporaries, and relatives between the years 1791 and 1794 while he was employed in the Counting Office of his cousin, James (Jacques) Cazenove in London. Also included are the first letters he received in America after his arrival in Philadelphia. Most either relay family news or describe commercial activities. A few of the letters contain advice about emigrating to America. The political climate in Geneva is also discussed. The impact of the French Revolution can be sensed throughout these letters. Also included is an extract from Cazenove's marriage register, a letter from Eleuthera du Pont dated 1852, a copy of his autobiographical sketch from the Virginia Magazine of History, a copy of his will, and miscellaneous biographical information.

The Longwood Manuscripts comprise the manuscript collections of P.S. du Pont. They formed the core collection of the Longwood Library, established as an independent research library in the year of his death. In 1961 the Longwood Library merged with the Hagley Musuem, and the collection became known as The Longwood Manuscripts.

The personal correspondence relates to both personal and business matters. Prior to E. I. du Pont's arrival in America in 1800 it includes letters concerning the career of his father and brother. After 1800, much of it concerns the founding and operation of the powder mills on the Brandywine. There are references to French and American politics, as well as to Thomas Jefferson's criticism of Napoleon in 1812, and the visit of Lafayette to the United States in 1824. The papers of Madame du Pont consist for the most part of family correspondence.
