Louis Albert Cazenove was the son of Anthony Charles Cazenove. His grandfather was Théophile Cazenove, a Dutch-born financier who had acted as purchasing agent for Dutch speculators in American state and federal securities in the years between 1763 and 1788. The family settled in Philadelphia in the 1790s, but moved to Virginia sometime after 1800, where Anthony Charles Cazenove established a mercantile firm that traded with Northern Europe.
