The records are primarily the files of Thomas Rodd, Chief Engineer of Lines West from 1889 to 1918. However, they also contain files from the following subordinate officers: Robert Trimble, Chief Engineer of Maintenance of Way, Northwest System (1903-1920) and William C. Cushing, Chief Engineer of Maintenance of Way, Southwest System (1903-1920). Additional files were taken from predecessors, Max J. Becker, Chief Engineer of the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railway and predecessors (1870-1896), F. T. Hatch, Chief Engineer of the Vandalia Railroad (1905-1917) and J. C. Bland, Engineer of Bridges & Buildings. The various files appear to have been consolidated by Robert Trimble after he became Assistant Chief Engineer at Pittsburgh (1920-1926), and he kept some files open, continuing coverage of the same projects after the dissolution of the Lines West organization.

Rose Valley Collection, 1859-1945, (bulk 1900-1927).

Title: Rose Valley Collection, 1859-1945, (bulk 1900-1927).

Consists of three groups of papers: Rose Valley Association Papers (4 boxes); Rose Valley Press Papers and Objects (8 boxes); and M. Hawley McLanahan Papers (8 boxes). The papers document the formation of the Rose Valley Association, its financial affairs, real estate holdings, and tax records; the Rose Valley Folk Theatre; the printing project of the association, the Rose Valley Press, including some printing blocks; and some of the building projects of the Price & McLanahan (and successors) architectural firm, including buildings in Florida, a proposed resort in North Carolina, a Hudson River bridge, and Atlantic City hotels. The final box contains some photocopied materials recording the history of Rose Valley, the Rose Valley Players, and two of William Price's plays. Also included are photographs of H.W. Hertzel, secretary of the Rose Valley Association and furniture attributed to him.

The United States Sanitary Commission established the Army and Navy Claim Agency (ANCA) in Washington, D.C. on April 1, 1864 to serve as the USSC’s central office to assist Union soldiers, sailors, and their families in prosecuting claims on the federal government for pensions, back pay, bounty, commutation of rations, prize money, and other benefits, without cost. The Army and Navy Claim Agency Archives comprise the records of the Army and Navy Claim Agency; the records of the Pension Agency, its predecessor organization; the registers and cash books of its subsidiary local agencies; and the records of two quasi-independent USSC claim agencies whose origins predate the establishment of the Army and Navy Claim Agency: the Protective War Claim Association of the State of New York, located in New York City, and the Protective War Claim and Pension Agency, located in Philadelphia.
