Title: [Tomb of Philip James de Loutherbourg Esqr. R.A.] [graphic] / Gosden. [between 1812 and 1843].

Gravestone inscribed "This Memorial is dedicated to the memory of Philip James de Loutherbourg Esqr. R.A. who was Born at Strasbourg in Alsace, November 28th 1781; and Departed this Life at Hammersmith Terrace, March 11th 1812. Aged 72 Years". Signed and annotated "In Chiswick Church Yard" by the artist. It appears Gosden recorded the dates incorrectly as they do not make sense. According to the ODNB, Loutherbourg "was born on 31 October 1740 according to the baptismal register of the Neue Kirche in Strasbourg, Alsace. However, his monument in the cemetery of St Nicholas in Chiswick, London, notes his birth as taking place on 1 November in Fulda, some 60 miles north of Darmstadt, Germany."
