Consists primarily of correspondence, but also includes typescripts of letters from pastors and talks that Owen gave. Correspondence include former SBC presidents William Wayne Dehoney, James David Grey, Robert Greene Lee, Louie Devotie Newton, Henry Franklin Paschall, William Ramsey Pollard, James Wilson Storer, James Lenox Sullivan, and Carl Casper Warren. Additional Baptist leaders include Clifton Judson Allen, Baker James Cauthen, Norman Wade Cox, W.C. Fields, John D. Freeman, J. Marse Grant, H.H. Hobbs, T.L. Holcomb, Alma Hunt, T.A. Patterson, Courts Redford, C. Winfield Rich, Porter Routh, O.W. Taylor, Foy Valentine, and Davis Collier Woolley. Correspondence from local, state, and national politicians include Beverly Briley (former mayor of Nashville), Frank G. Clement (former Tennessee Congressman), Albert Gore, Sr. (former Tennessee Senator), Brooks Hays (former Arkansas Senator and former SBC president), and Estes Kefauver.

The collection consists primarily of correspondence and subject files related to Dowis' tenure as Director of Cooperative Missions at the Home Mission Board. Dowis' correspondence files from 1953 to 1956 comprise about two-thirds of the collection. Other materials in the collection include subject files and promotional materials related to Rural Church Conferences, Western Missions Conferences, Eastern and Western Rural Life Conference, and survey programs.

Storer, James Wilson, 1884-1970. Collection, 1910-1969.

Title: Collection, 1910-1969.

The collection documents the tenure of Dr. Storer as President of the Southern Baptist Convention with some additional materials related to his work as Executive Secretary of the Southern Baptist Foundation. Majority of the collection is correspondence between Dr. Storer and other Baptist leaders including Baker J. Cauthen, W. A. Criswell, Norman W. Cox, James T. Draper, Herschel H. Hobbs, Kearnie Keegan, Albert McClellan, Louie D. Newton, Courts Redford, Porter Routh, and James L. Sullivan. There are also four photograph albums and two scrapbooks that document the Southern Baptist Convention meetings in 1953, 1954, and 1955. The scrapbooks also include clippings and correspondence congratulating Dr. Storer on his election as President. Another photograph album contains images of a 1954 European trip that Dr. Storer conducted as part of his presidential duties.

The Home Mission Board Communication Division Collection contains four and a half linear feet of files. Materials included in the collection are articles, clippings, correspondence, minutes, pamphlets, and reports, which are arranged alphabetically by subject. The collection comes from the files of Luther Orba (L. O.) Griffith, during his tenure as Communication Division director from 1959-1971 with some additional files from his successor, James M. Sapp. Researchers should refer to the Home Mission Board Department of Missionary Education Collection (AR 631-5) and the Home Mission Board Editorial Services Department Collection (AR 631-8) for additional information related to the Communication Division.
