Contains a collection of Fairfax family epitaphs and other records compiled throughout by Charles Fairfax with his additions and revisions and with a signed dedication to Thomas, third Lord Fairfax. The manuscript is a neat compilation of chiefly Latin verse epitaphs, memorial inscriptions, anagrams, a few English verses, and other tributes, genealogical notes on the family with coats of arms, designs of monuments, and other historical material.

Memorandum book containing Polwhele's accounts with booksellers; lists of his earnings for articles and reviews; extracts and portions of letters to him commenting on his works; and many newspaper and magazine clippings of reviews of, quotations from, or advertisements for his publications. Identifiable correspondents include Hannah More; Catharine Macaulay; Thomas Pennant; and Edward Drewe. In addition, there are several substantial letters from unidentified correspondents, including one discussing the state of Samuel Johnson's health during his last visit to Lichfield, which also mentions Anna Seward. The records of Polwhele's earnings are particularly detailed and include payments for book reviews, miscellaneous topical columns, and verses.

Also include contemporary manuscript copies of documents pertaining to the Virginia Company of London: the second charter, 1609, granted by King James I; the commission granted to Lord De La Warr, 1610; instructions, orders, and constitutions, 1609, to Sir Thomas Gates, Governor of Virginia; instructions, orders, and constitutions, 1609/10, to Lord De La Warr; and manuscript transcripts of these documents. Manuscript volume containing a fair copy of John Windover's England's worthies, dedicated to Sir Thomas Fairfax. It later was part of the library at the Bristol Baptist College, having been donated by wealthy local churchman Richard B. Sherring.

Contains 194 seventeenth-century English poems, mainly Biblical paraphrases, chiefly the Psalms and the Song of Solomon, but also from Exodus, Deuteronomy, Judges, Samuel, Proverbs, and Luke; also, divine hymns, other religious and moralistic verse, occasional and miscellaneous verse, translations from Petrarch and of a French epigraph, and so-called 'Vulgar Proverbs', all apparently by Lord Fairfax himself.

Prose pieces include a tract titled Vox Populi, Or Newes from Spaine, Translated According to the Spanish Coppie; The Oath Sayd to bee Taken by Commanders in the Warre 1639; copies of proclamations, speeches, and warrants dated 1642 which pertain to the activities of Lord Fairfax's army in Yorkshire and the North; and an exposition of a system of shorthand titled The Art of Short Writeing Invented by ____ Laborer gouldsmith & Citizen of London, As Hee Taught Mee. Verses include a dialogue titled A Conference Held Att Angelo Castell Betweene the Pope, the Emperor and The King of Spayne; Verses uppon Prince Charle His Voyage For Spayne, in Febr. 1622; A Coppie of a Printed Ballade Called The Bishops Bridles, Lent by Will.
