Incoming and outgoing correspondence, primarily relating to the transfer of money, particularly in his role as State Treasurer. A number of requests are for pensions. In a 1782 letter, Kingsbury complains about a shortage of knapsacks for soldiers. Widow Bartlett, through an intermediary, inquires in 1800 whether a Negro wench previously sold by her husband could be repurchased. Of note is a letter of William Whitman, 1835, explaining his interpretation of women's rights to personal property, especially after marriage. Also a letter from Timothy Dwight, and legal documents including deeds, Kingsbury's military appointment, treasury documents related to school funds, and a warrant about unpaid taxes.

Organizational documents, inventories, sales records and bills of the Hartford Woolen Manufactory. Includes accounts of Daniel Hinsdale and Peter Colt. Papers regarding the Hartford Woolen Manufactory Lottery were originally part of the Andrew Kingsbury Papers. Company is best known for having produced the suit worn by President George Washington at his first inauguration. Bound volumes are a ledger and a daybook kept by Peter Cook, an invoice book of goods made by the company, and a book of sales made by Daniel Hinsdale.

Also includes correspondence to and from Andrew Kingsbury, Oliver Phelps, and the Commissioner of the School Fund, James Hillhouse.

Wadsworth was the first to hold the office, serving between 1786 and 1788. Kingsbury was in office 1791-1793 and was followed by Porter, 1793-1806. The topics include letters sent to the Collectors of Import in various Connecticut towns, balances due to those who fought in the Revolutionary War, issues with the state courts, and other matters.

Battles, Enfield, expressing sympathy for a fire at Poland Hill, Me.; and two songs (Apr. 4, 1886), with letteral notation, entitled "Dearest Home Above Others of Fathers and Mothers" and "A March."

Woodward, P. H. (Patrick Henry), 1833-1917. Woodward family papers, 1778-1948.

Title: Woodward family papers, 1778-1948.

A collection of papers for several generations of the Woodward family. Includes genealogical research conducted by Dr. Ashbel Woodward. The collection comprises a variety of material. Correspondence in the collection was sent to Ashbel Woodward, P.H. Woodward, and Charles G. Woodward. There are writings by Samuel B. Woodward, letters acknowledging receipt of P.H. Woodward's book about Hartford Bank, land ownership certificates from Wisconsin, a biographical sketch of J.M. Allen, autographs from P.H. Woodward's Yale classmates, writings most likely from P.H.'s time at Yale, and lithographs of 1854 and 1855 Yale graduates. A few of the pieces may have been collected by the family, including a Civil war muster roll from Virginia, an American Revolution muster roll from Massachusetts, two monthly reports from Fort Griswold, Hartford highway district and other account books kept by Andrew Kingsbury, and tax collection notices signed by Andrew Kingsbury. Other family papers include information regarding Emeline Bicknell's estate, Ashbel Woodward's biography of General Nathaniel Lyon, and papers from P.H. Woodward's time with the United States Post Office. P.H. Woodward worked for the United States Post Office in more than one capacity, though most of his papers and writings date to his time as a Special Agent, investigating fraud on the Star Routes. Several wills may be found as well. Correspondence with several members of the Knowlton family resulted in a memoir of Colonel Thomas Knowlton. Business papers are from the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company, where both P.H. and Charles G. Woodward were employed. Finally, personal papers consist of items such as marriage announcements and calling cards. Photographs in the collection are mostly unidentified. The material that has been processed is arranged partially by subject and partially in chronological order. The items in chronological order relate to a variety of P.H. Woodward's responsibilities and associations. These include the Hartford Board of Trade, his involvement with the Post Office, and his class at Yale. Later correspondence reveals a friendship between Elizabeth H. Colt and P.H. Woodward. P.H. Woodward was also a trustee under the will of William Healy.

Title: Duties on writs, 1793-1817.

A record of costs for serving writs on various individuals, including the date, the names of the plaintiff and defendant, for whom the writ was signed, the court, and the amount of duty. Individual accounts are between such people as Thomas Day, Isaac Perkins, Ephraim Root, etc., with Andrew Kingsbury. The sheet is a compilation of duties collected between May 1793 and May 1808, for each of the counties in Connecticut. Andrew Kingsbury was Treasurer for the state, and it may be in this capacity that the volume was recorded.

Reports of the "Subscribers managers of the School Fund" empowered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1800 to manage the Connecticut school funds produced from the sale of the Western Reserve lands. The collection consists of two volumes (1801-03, 1807-10) of copies of regulations for the disposition of bonds, including account listings of bonds by number and original bondholder, the amount and location of lands placed as collateral security for the bonds, and listings of bond transfers and delinquent interest payments due. John Treadwell, Jonathan Brace, Hezekiah Ripley, and Andrew Kingsbury were managers of the fund. Included is a report by the commissioner of the school fund in 1810.
