Papers, 1757-1836.
The correspondence of Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours covers his entire public career - particularly his involvement with the Physiocratic movement in pre-revolutionary France. The letters from Anne-Robert Turgot represent one of the most significant parts of the collection as they relate to Du Pont de Nemours' career as a governmental official prior to the French Revolution. The collection also describes his settlement in the United States and his later diplomatic career after the fall of Napoleon. Included in the letters is the earliest known one sent by Benjamin Franklin, the first American with whom Du Pont de Nemours had any associations. There is also correspondence with Mirabeau, Napoleon, Talleyrand, Vergennes, Voltaire, and Jacques Necker. The letters from Jacques Necker describe economic conditions during the last years of the ancien régime and the process by which Louis XVI formulated the royal budget. There is also an exchange of letters between Thomas Jefferson and Du Pont de Nemours.

Title:
Papers, 1817-1828.
This collection consists of seven letters, one of which is an unsigned item presumably authored by Jarvis. Topics include party schisms in the Democratic Republican Party (later the Democratic Party), anti-Federalist attitudes and strategies, and the progress of the Jackson presidential campaign of 1828 in New England. Correspondents include Ashur Ware, Samuel Dexter, John K. Simpson, David Henshaw, and Salma Hale. Hale wrote of the Commutation Bill for War of 1812 enlistment boundaries, his sympathy with South American patriots, his opposition to an increase in the strength of the Navy, and about the lack of information available to members of Congress. He also wrote of European matters, such as Alexander's treatment of Poland and Bonaparte, Alexander's connection with Ferdinand, and the decline of the power of England. The unsigned letter is addressed to retired diplomat Jonathan Russell, and concerns the publication of Amos Kendall's letter in response to an attack upon him by Henry Clay, as well as Russell's involvement and how he should respond.

James Ludovic Lindsay collection of French manuscripts, 1767-1863, bulk 1792-1835.
Collection consists of selected letters, administrative papers, and other manuscripts, chiefly of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic periods, that bear the bookplate and previously formed part of the Bibliotheca Lindesiana, the private library of James Ludovic Lindsay, 26th Earl of Crawford. Lindsay's collection of French manuscripts was auctioned off by Sotheby's between 1924 and 1925 and a small portion was acquired by Duke in 1960. Duke's collection represents a very small fraction of Lindsay's original collection and consists chiefly of manuscripts, with typed transcripts in French, that document various aspects of civil administration including letters from the prefects of various departments, letters from government ministers, and several letters addressed to Comte Collin de Sussy, Minister of Commerce and Manufacturing, and the Comte d'Antraigues. Other materials in the collection include letters in English from French elites to British nobility, such as to the Duke of York, and letters from French aristocrats to government officials. Examples include a letter addressed to Napoleon Bonaparte from Arnoud Joubert, a lawyer at the imperial court of Paris, discussing the possibility of receiving a medal of honor, and a letter from Cardinal Albani to Alexander I, Emperor of Russia, requesting the Emperor's protection from French authorities. The collection also includes some manuscripts and engravings acquired separately that do not bear the Bibliotheca Lindesiana bookplate.

Manuscripts of, and historical documents collected by, Georgiĭ M. Kiselevskiĭ. Kiselevskiĭ's brief typed memoirs discuss his youth, service in the Imperial Ministry of Communications before World War I, and life as an emigre in Europe and Latin America. His diary from 1919-1920 covers the period when he served in the White Northwestern Army. Also included is a photograph and membership lists relating to emigre engineers' associations. Among the historical documents which Kiselevskiĭ collected are patents and edicts issued by the following Russian rulers: Alekseĭ Mikhaĭlovich (ruled 1645-76); Peter I (1682-1725); Catherine I (1725-27); Anna Ivanovna (1730-40); Ivan VI (1740-41); Catherine II (1762-96); and Alexander I (1801-25). Co-signers of certain of these documents are A.A. Arakcheev, V.V. Dolgorukiĭ, B.C. von Minikh, and A.D. Menshikov. Also included are over 50 miscellaneous receipts and other documents from the period 1732-1872.
