Three facsimiles of pages from the log of the U.S.S. Cyane. Includes two pages of remarks on weather conditions and the ship's course from July 29-30 1846; an excerpt titled Arrival of the Congress - Departure of the Cyane - Capture of San Diego, which includes references to General Jose Castro and Commodore Robert F. Stockton, as well as the various ships engaged in the operation (includes a typescript of the same); and a second excerpt titled Capture of Monterey by the American Squadron, which includes references to the hoisting of an American flag at Yerba Buena on July 7, 1846.

The collection consists of facsimile copies of the personal, political, land and legal papers of Don José Antonio de la Guerra y Noriega and his son Pablo de la Guera. The collection deals with the following subjects: Bear Flag Revolt, business, cattle trade, commerce, ranches and land grants in California, Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, Mission Santa Barbara and the other California missions, the Santa Barbara Presidio, California Indians, California politics and government, and women in California. Many other prominent Californians are represented in the collection: Juan Bautista Alvarado, Juan Bandini, José Castro, John Charles Frémont, Pablo de la Guerra, José Antonio de la Guerra y Noriega, Henry W. Halleck, William E. P. Hartnell, Thomas O. Larkin, Mariano Payeras, Pedro Pérez Muñoz, Pío Pico, Alfred Robinson, William Tecumseh Sherman, Pablo Vicente de Solá. There is a separate sub-collection formed by the Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo papers [FAC 667 (1126-1188)], which includes 90 letters by Mexican-American author María Amparo Ruiz de Burton. The originals of the Guerra family Collection are at the Santa Barbara Mission Archive Library. Most of the material is in Spanish. The collection includes a subject index as well as a descriptive calendar.

Bandini, Juan, 1800-1859. California historical documents collection, 1812-1912 (bulk 1830-1852).

Title: California historical documents collection, 1812-1912 (bulk 1830-1852).

The collection consists of letters and documents in both English and Spanish by early Californians relating to politics and government, business, and mission affairs (particularly Mission Santa Cruz). While the bulk of the collection falls between the years 1830-1852, there are papers concerning the life and times of Abel Stearns, the activities of John Rowland in New Mexico and California (1835-65), the agitation of Alta Californians demanding self-government, the Mexican War, and the events leading to California statehood. Included are final drafts of certain articles of the 1849 California Constitution and indexes and lists of civil and criminal cases in the courts of Los Angeles for the years 1830-1850.
