Title: Autobiography. 1881-1891.

Congregational minister and past corresponding secretary of the Illinois Home Missionary Association, the Rev. Bascom wrote about the significant events in his life as he recalled them. After he had attained the age of seventy, he decided to record in his own hand a 278 page account of his life for his family. He was a native of Lebanon, Connecticut but went west to join the "Yale Band" and served in various posts in Illinois.

Correspondence and pamphlets describe individual schools located primarily in the Midwest and West, but including all of the states. Letters from missionaries in the Midwest, the society's secretary in New York and secretaries located in various regions, reflect frontier conditions, internal ecclesiastical conditions, education in various states, and economic, social and political problems. Topics include European immigrants, and denominationalism.
