An elaborate promptbook annotated with critical and illustrative material. Preceded by a long introduction. Incidentally intended to be a volume of Becks' contemplated The actor's Shakespeare. Consists of four volumes. S.b.19 (1) is titled "Macbeth, the actor's Shakespeare;" S.b.19 (2) contains manuscript music; S.b.19 (3) is titled "Macbeth on the stage;" S.b.19 (4) is titled "Manuscript notes by Geo. Becks." It also contains engravings of actors (Shattuck).

Becks has pasted printed material from various editions onto lined notebook paper--French's Acting edition, ii-iv; Charles Kean's edition (London, 1855), v-x and auxiliaries; preface, synopsis of scenes to Henry Irving's edition; and other editions, in addition to newspaper clippings and notes about other productions (leaf 35) and manuscript text. From leaf 42 onwards, interleaved with the play text from p. 213-303 of The Elzevir Library vol. vi, no. 272, Ideal edition Henry VIII by Shakespeare (NY: Alden, May 21, 1887)
