Several poems and essays by Cassady are represented as are two drafts of his largely autobiographical work The First Third & Other Works (1971). Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac are both well represented correspondents, as is Cassady's second wife Carolyn Cassady.

Correspondence of Allen Ginsberg with his father, Louis Ginsberg, his family, and friends, concerning his poetry and his travels. Some major correspondents are Neal Cassady, Gregory Corso, Jack Kerouac, William Burroughs, Robert Creeley, Michael McClure, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Several manuscripts of his poetry, and miscellaneous printed materials. The typescript of his journals kept while in India, edited and published as INDIAN JOURNALS MARCH 1962-MAY 1963: NOTEBOOKS, DIARY, BLANK PAGES, WRITINGS (San Francisco, Dave Haselwood Books, 1970), with galley proofs, page proofs, photographs, and correspondence with publisher Dave Haselwood.
