This collection consists mainly of correspondence. Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac are particularly well-represented correspondents as is Cassady's second wife Carolyn Cassady. In addition, there are a few poems, essays and an autobiographical work by Cassady, poems from unidentified authors and a number of letters written and received by those other than Cassady.

Irwin Allen Ginsberg was born on June 3, 1926 in Newark, New Jersey to Louis and Naomi (Levy) Ginsberg. American poet, author, lecturer, and teacher who was one of the core members of the Beat Generation of American author's in the 1950's and early 1960's along with Jack Kerouac, William S.
