The correspondence consists chiefly of letters written to his mother, Mary Lee Fendall, and sister, Lucy Eleanor, while Fendall was a student at the College of New Jersey. Fendall writes of college life, fellow students, religion and politics. He discusses classmates including Charles Oliver of Baltimore, John Wurts, Charles Pettit McIlvaine, and John Blair Dabney; studies and examinations; expenses; choosing between the Whig and Cliosophic Societies; the influence of Asbel Green, a religious revival among the students and his own religious awakening, affairs of the Presbyterian and Episcopalian Churches and the possibility of entering the Episcopalian ministry. Also discussed are family and friends, particularly concerns over his mother's health. He corrects his sister's grammar and slang and mentions a curious incident related to the suicide of William Thornton. Letters, 1814-1815, to him from Peter H. Cruse, Oliver Norris, and Edmund Lee, discuss events at school. In an 1830 letter Josiah S. Johnston writes about his presidential candidacy, and Clay's nomination and strategy in New York. Albert Gallatin Brown sends family news in 1841.

Autographs, correspondence, portraits, and envelopes. Most of the materials were donated by Fred Rosenstock to Brigham Young University, but some were acquired from different sources. Many of the items were originally gathered by Barton Orville Aylesworth, a biographer and an autograph collector in Fort Collins, Colorado. Contains autographs, correspondence, portraits, and envelopes. Most of the items were originally gathered by Barton Orville Aylesworth, a biographer and an autograph collector in Fort Collings Colorado. The materials are largely letters and autographs produced by prominent American and British authors, editors, politicians, and other important artistic and historical figures in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The items relating to the individual creators are being cataloged separately and will be available on the Brigham Young University cataloging data base. BYU special collections created this artificial collection placing the material in alphabetical order.

Collection, 1839-1875, of Isaac Hammond of New York, a Union soldier who was stationed for a time in Richmond, Virginia, and gathered various documents from the files of Governors John Letcher and William Smith, the Virginia General Assembly, the Confederate Congress, the files of Confederate Senators James M. Baker of Florida and R. M. T. Hunter of Virginia, and the Confederate adjutant-general's office. The material covers a wide range of subjects including the impressment of slaves for working on Confederate and local defenses, hospitals, the plights of women and children in Virginia during the Civil War, military defenses, supplies for various companies in the Confederate army, pay vouchers, military passes, military orders, and newspapers from Richmond, Virginia, Montgomery, Alabama, and Augusta, Georgia.

Papers and correspondence relating to the efforts of Anna G. de Neufville Evans of Natchez, Miss. concerning the claim of her grandfather, John de Neufville, against the U.S. government for supplies and services rendered to the Continental Army. Continuing the efforts of her father, her brother Leonard, and her mother Anna Margaret de Neufville Stoughton, Evans's attempt to secure payment included a petition to Congress which resulted in a resolution supporting restitution. Evans's and her family's correspondents and supporters included Albert Gallatin Brown, Robert R. Livingston, Samuel Shethar Phelps, and Elisha Whittlesey. Other papers include the wills and estate inventories of John de Neufville, Don Juan Stoughton, and Anna de Neufville Stoughton of Cambridge, Mass.

The collection contains correspondence dealing with cattle business ventures in which Randolph was involved in the 1920s and again in the 1940s in the Tongue River Valley and the Big Horn Basin. Randolph's manuscripts and published works with related correspondence with publishers and clippings and reviews are also included. Genealogical materials and some financial and legal documents as well as photographs, taken by Randolph over several decades are included. There are 16 mm motion pictures taken in the 1930s by Randolph of Crow Indians, an Indian Rodeo, and Randolph family events. There are also two commercial films, one of Charles Lindbergh's flight and another of the Coronation of King George VI of England.
