The Mary C. Bromage collection includes both her papers and earlier collected papers of family members. The Mary C. Bromage collection has been divided into five series: Correspondence, Family History, Newspaper Editorials, Photographs, and Topical. The Family History series (.3 linear feet; 1862-1989) consists of information that Mary C. Bromage had gathered and saved about her family. It contains a diary written by her grandfather in 1862 and information on Sarah Edith Ives, her physician mother from 1892 to 1983, and her father Reverend, James J. Cogan from 1931 to 1980. The Correspondence series (.7 linear feet; 1923-1993) contains many letters from her husband, Arthur Bromage, especially while serving in the military during World War II and relating to his work with the Regional Military Government Detachment for Bavaria. There are also letters from family members, friends and acquaintances. The Newspaper Editorials series (3 folders and 6 bound volumes; 1950-1954) is composed of bound volumes of Bromage's editorials for the Ann Arbor News. The Photograph series (.5 linear feet; 1891-1988) includes pictures of her mother, her husband while in the military, and group photos of seminars which she or her husband conducted. The final series, Topical (2 linear feet; 1923-1994), contains general material about the variety of activities in which Bromage participated. Included are book reviews of Bromage's writings, information collected while she was writing her book on DeValera (autographs from two Irish presidents and an Irish Nationalist leader as well as her notes and diary while she resided), her notes on her unpublished writings and short stories, and material that Bromage used in teaching at the University of Michigan and in the seminars that she conducted.

Records, 1916-1936.
Collection contains material emanating from the National Secretary consisting of records book and statements of the Secretary discussing the role Irish Americans should play in Ireland's fight for freedom, correspondence and telegrams dealing with the organization's business matters, printed letters and publicity campaign newsletters, pamphlets, printed forms, mailing lists, and minutes. Records of the National Executive contain information and minutes of the National Council and correspondence about the John Devoy Fund. The majority of the National Treasurer's records comprise documentation of three legal cases involving the organization's financial management. Michael B. McGreal, the treasurer, was named as a primary party in two of the cases. In McGreal vs. Ford, the Friends of Irish Freedom was charged with withholding funds promised to a school in Ireland. In McGreal vs. Maloney, management of the Irish Bond Certificates was questioned by some New Jersey members of the society. The complex case of Montague vs. Cooney involved the management and legality of the Irish Bond Certificates. Documentation reveals many facets of the Friends' activities, opinions, and inner workings. In addition to the legal documentation, the treasurer's records contain the organization's correspondence, bills, receipts, account books and bank statements.

Title:
Herbert Brownell Jr. Additional Papers. 1897 - 1996. Photographs
This series consists of photographic prints, slides, negatives, transparencies, and postcards accumulated by Herbert Brownell, Jr., throughout his lifetime. Many of the images are of members of Brownell and his family, including studio portraits and informal snapshots. Several cabinet card portraits of Brownell's ancestors were made as long ago as the 1880s or 1890s. Other family photographs date to Brownell's childhood and youth and that of his first wife, Doris McCarter Brownell. There are many photos of the Brownells' children. There are also group portraits of Brownell and his family taken up into the 1980s or early 1990s, as well as some photos featuring artist Marion “Riki” Taylor, to whom Brownell was briefly married. Photographs from Brownell's youth include some from his time at the University of Nebraska, where he was a member of the Society of Innocents and the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Some photographs may be from Brownell's long employment at law firm Lord, Day & Lord, although they are not labeled. Brownell appears at meetings of the American Hotel Association and the Hotel Association of New York City. Several photographs show him with groups at restaurant “21” in New York City. Photos of Brownell's early political activity include a few from his runs for state assemblyman in New York in the 1930s, as well as a number taken while Brownell was campaign manager for Thomas E. Dewey's gubernatorial and presidential campaigns during the 1940s. Photos of the candidates and of examples of political advertising are present in the series. Many photos in this series were taken during or just before Herbert Brownell's term as Attorney General during the administration of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. These include a small number of photos taken on Eisenhower's 1952 trip to Korea. A set of black and white snapshots shows the members of Eisenhower's Cabinet riding in the 1953 Inauguration Day Parade. Photos feature Attorney General Brownell with the President's Cabinet, at the Department of Justice, at the FBI National Academy, at the White House, at Camp David, and at meetings of the American Bar Association, Inter-American Bar Association, and National Association of Attorneys General. Brownell instituted the Attorney General's Honors Program at the Department of Justice, the first classes of which appear in group photographs with Brownell. He is shown speaking at meetings with the National Industrial Conference Board and the Zionist Organization of America. He is also shown addressing the press, courts, and committees on such topics as governmental investigations, internal security, communism, and wiretapping. Brownell is pictured receiving several honorary degrees during and after his term as Attorney General, including one from the National University of Ireland. Organizations that Brownell was involved in and are depicted in the series include the Bohemian Club, the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, and the governing council of the White Burkett Miller Center at the University of Virginia. Later involvement of Herbert Brownell with the federal government includes dealing with issues of water rights and water quality management on the lower Colorado River, investigating geothermal resources in California's Imperial Valley, and being vice-chairman of the Commission on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution. He also is pictured with the Congressional sponsors of the 25th Amendment and the supporting American Bar Association Committee, and, in another photo, with the Coalition for Adequate Judicial Compensation while testifying before the House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Courts, Civil Liberties and the Administration of Justice. Some locations where Herbert Brownell appears in photographs in this series include the U.S. Military Academy at West Point; the Executive Mansion in Monrovia, Liberia; Middle Temple Hall in London; Peru State College, Nebraska; the Bohemian Grove in California; and Plymouth, Massachusetts. He also appears at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library at conferences on constitutional issues and civil rights. Additional persons of interest who appear in photographs in this series include Sherman Adams, Hawthorne Arey, William H. Avery, Stanley N. Barnes, Birch Bayh, Griffin B. Bell, James V. Bennett, Ezra Taft Benson, Omar Bradley, John W. Bricker, Baron Nigel Bridge of Harwich, Warren E. Burger, W. Randolph Burgess, George H. W. Bush, Clifford P. Case, Emanuel Celler, Benjamin R.
