The Percy Bysshe Shelley manuscript material in the Pforzheimer Collection consists of writings and correspondence. The writings include: the holograph manuscript of his Philosophical View of Reform; the "Esdaile Notebook," a copybook containing over fifty early holograph poems; and extensive holograph revisions in a printed copy of his Queen Mab. The bulk of the correspondence is dated between 1810 and 1822 and discusses publishing matters, family arrangements and financial concerns. Correspondents include: Lord Byron, poet (his friend); William Godwin, philosopher and novelist (his father-in-law); Thomas Jefferson Hogg, his friend and biographer, Mary Shelley, novelist (his wife); and over fifty others.

The papers consist of correspondence, writings, notes, and other papers documenting the personal life and professional career of Sir Joseph Banks, a British naturalist and explorer. Correspondence with stewards and landowners in Lincolnshire and elsewhere detail Banks' interest in agriculture and farming. Other papers relate to family estates, to Banks' scientific investigations and to his interest in the exploration of Africa and other regions. A translation of Frederic Horneman's "Travels into the interior of Africa performed for the African Society," (circa 1800) and letters relating to the death of explorer Mungo Park are included.

The correspondents, mostly titled, include but are not limited to: Charles Abbot (Baron Colchester), the Duke of Buckingham and Chandos (1776-1839), Henry Brougham, Thomas Grenville, Earl Morton (1761-1827), the Duke of Norfolk (1746-1814), Antoine Augustin Renouard, the Duke of Roxburghe (1740-1804), and the Earl of Spencer (1758-1854). The letters dated after 1829 are addressed to William Nicol. The letters discuss purchases, desired items, and important upcoming sales.
