Correspondence, diaries, articles, stories, clippings, memorabilia, photographs, and translations of mostly unpublished works by Spanish-language writers. Some of the authors are Concha Espina de Serna, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, Jose Maria Carretero, Guillermo Diaz-Caneja, Gregorio Martinez Sierra, Rafael Delgado, Pedro Juan Labarthe, Jose Lopez- Portillo y Rojas, Emilia Pardo-Bazan, Jose Echegaray and Eduardo Zamacois. Personal material consists of correspondence and family photographs, from marriage to Charles Fletcher Lummis, and later to Courtenay DeKalb, with whom she operated the Roadside Mine in Arizona. Photographs and correspondence related to the mine are present. Also included are typescripts of Douglas' published and unpublished articles, stories, and translations. Original drawings are by E.A. Burbank and Carl Oscar Borg. Correspondence with friends and publishers includes writers Eugene Rhodes, Henry Knibbs, Concha Espina, Vicente Blasco Ibáñez, José María Carretero, Pedro Labarthe, Guillermo Diaz-Caneja, and the publisher Phoebe Hearst. Diaries and photographs document travels to Mexico and Europe. Stories were recorded by Douglas while she lived among the Isleta Indians. Mexican and U.S. newspapers, 1911-1915, report on the Mexican Revolution.

This collection highlights the career and research of H. Mason Coggin, a professional engineer and land surveyor and expert in gold placer mining. Although the collection's main focus is on gold placer mining, all aspects and types of mining are represented. This collection may be the most comprehensive contemporary mining collection available. Please note that many files have duplicative titles in different series. However, the information contained within varies significantly. It is suggested that a researcher working on a particular mine, company, or topic request relevant files in each series. The collection is arranged into five series: Series I: Business; Series II: Mine Files; Series III: Mining Companies; Series IV: Reports; and Series V: Research Files. Series I: Business is divided into seven subseries; bids and contracts, calendars, correspondence, design files, investment opportunities, projects, and registrations. Bids and contracts document the process of obtaining a specific project. Of interest are Coggin's calendars and correspondence that document his work at Coe and Van Loo Consulting Engineers as well as his own private consulting firm. Design files contain information on the latest design techniques for equipment and mining processes. Files on investment opportunities often include an insider's look into special mines not known about by the public. Projects contain reports, data, and background information on individual projects by a certain company or on a specific mine. Registration files document the paperwork and applications necessary to practice in each given state. Series II: Mine Files is divided into three subseries; Arizona mines, out of state mines (other than Arizona), and the IMI Property Database printout. Both Arizona mine files and out of state mine files include reports about each mine, background and historical information, mining districts, maps, plots, assays, and legal documents. All files, if known, contain the county of the mine since some duplicative naming exists. Of note, many files include copies of maps for properties that date as far back as the late 1800's. Included in the Arizona mines subseries are general county files. Also included in this series is the IMI Property Database printout which lists active mines in their respective states. Series III: Mining Companies includes background information on mining companies worldwide. Files consist of reports, history and background of the company, projects completed, and financial statements. Of interest are files relating to large mining operations such as Phelps Dodge, Superior Companies, and Mines West, Inc. Series IV: Reports includes both general reports and property reports. General reports range in topic from cole leasing to the status of mining in Angola. Property reports highlight specific mining properties. Additional information for specific properties can also be found in Series II: Mine Files under the name of each mine. Series V: Research Files include various topics ranging from general information about gold placer mining to specific mining techniques and processes, important figures in the mining community and publications.

The Lummis Manuscript Collection is composed of his personal correspondence with over 5,000 individuals, diaries and journals. Scrapbooks of newspaper and magazine articles either by or about him. The Land of Sunshine and Out West Series contain copies of articles and artwork which appeared in the magazines. The Los Angeles Public Library Series relates to when Lummis was City Librarian and includes reports to the Board of Commissioners and memos to the Library Staff. There are also series which relate to Lummis' publications, and include some original manuscripts.

Biography of Charles Fletcher Lummis (1859-1928), prominent journalist, poet, photographer, and activist of the American west and founder of the Southwest Museum. The biography begins with Lummis' childhood in Massachusetts, where he was rigorously educated by his father following his mother's early death. It then traces his attendance of Harvard, his 1885 transcontinental walk from Cincinnati to Los Angeles (as recorded in Lummis' book A tramp across the continent, 1891), his work as city editor of the Los Angeles Times, his 1886 coverage of General George Crook's participation in the Apache Wars, Lummis' paralysis and temporary blindness, his life with the Pueblo Indians in New Mexico, and his founding of the Southwest Museum. References are also made to Lummis' relationships with his first wife Dr. Dorothea Rhodes, Theodore Roosevelt and Boies Penrose at Harvard, Harrison Gray Otis, Leonard Wood, Adolph F. Bandelier, Henry Herbert Knibbs, and members of his "Lion's Den" literary circle. Carbon copy of typewritten manuscript with handwritten notes.

Scrapbook with 189 photographs, correspondence, and works written and collected by Eldridge, 1938-1955. Photographs include informal portraits of authors Judy Van der Veer, Henry Herbert Knibbs and Turbesé Lummis Fiske, in California, 1938. A large quantity of photographs document activities on ranches in around Crooked Creek in Kane and Raymond, Wyoming, in 1939. Locations include the Ella J. Strong Ranch and ranches operated by the Barndt, Hetland, and Kelsey families. Many images depict young cowboys, as well as men working and socializing on ranches. The scrapbook includes tear sheets for stories by Eldridge, including The Devil's Shoestring (1938), Border Dance (1939), and book reviews he wrote for the Daily Oklahoman, 1940-1941. Correspondence includes a group of letters from George R. Pattullo and brief notes from Caroline Lockhart, John Russell, Gouverneur Morris (1876-1953), Rupert Hughes, Robert Edward Stuart Chambers, and the Unity School of Christianity. The scrapbook includes a pamphlet by Gouverneur Morris, To My Wife's Mother (1939), which describes the death of his wife, Ruth J. Morris. Clippings include obituaries for Thomas Beer, Henry Vernon Foster, F. Scott Fritzgerald, Hamlin Garland, Margaret Hill McCarter, and Owen Wister, as well as images of male college athletes.
