Beach, and Drake Mills, both in New York, re secession and Civil War as seen by residents of North and South. Letters, 24 Jan. 1861, from E.M. Beach, Charleston, S.C., refuting Smith's claims re secession and the South's opposition to Lincoln; 18 Feb. 1864, from E.D. Beach, imploring Smith to assist in defending his brother, E.M. Beach, against accusations of being a Copperhead with sympathy for the Confederacy, charges of which were being used to justify the confiscation of his real and personal property at Skaneateles (Onondaga County, N.Y.); Letter, 29 May 1865, reporting destruction of property resulting from passage of Sherman's troops through the area, and announcing E.M. Beach's purchase of "a place in Kirkwood, the suburb of Camden [S.C.]"

The collection consists of material acquired by Enderlin during his career with the Lackawanna, primarily the kind of historical miscellany that flowed into the secretary's office. Two-thirds of the collection consists of newsclippings on labor matters (ca. 1900-1919), and the remainder of agreements, letters of resignation, statistics and rough minutes.
