Samuelson, Paul A. (Paul Anthony), 1915-2009. Paul A. Samuelson papers, 1933-2010.
Title:
Paul A. Samuelson papers, 1933-2010.
The Paul Samuelson Papers span the years 1933 to 2010, and cover nearly all aspects of his distinguished career. Materials are arranged in the original order maintained by Samuelson, and include his professional correspondence files; unpublished writings, notes, drafts and fragments; audiovisual materials; documents regarding awards, including the Nobel Prize; files relating to various grants, committees, and projects; teaching materials from his years at MIT; files of speeches; and publication files, including professional and mainstream media articles. Significant correspondents include Milton Friedman, Don Patinkin, and Robert Solow, as well as many other notable economists, Nobel prize winners, politicians, and scientists. Material can also be found on economic programs at institutions such as MIT, where Samuelson established a renowned economics faculty. Researchers will find materials representing Samuelson's work on diverse topics of economic theory, including the history of economic thought (post-Keynesian economics, neoclassical economics, and thinkers such as Marx, Sraffa and Ricardo), financial economics, growth theory, international finance, inflation, stability, welfare economics, post-World War economic policies and stabilization, stochastic analysis, utility, monetary policy, Marxist economics, biological economics - including population and gender studies, thermodynamics, and mathematical economics. Samuelson's insights on many of these subjects serve as organizational themes for large sections in the Unpublished Writings Series in the collection. Finally, the Samuelson Papers also document his strong contributions to the U.S. government, especially his work for the Federal Reserve, and to federally-funded projects, professional committees and boards, and organizations and societies, beginning in the 1940s and continuing throughout his career.

Clark served on Connecticut commissions in 1935-1936 and 1949-1951. His voluminous correspondence (ca. 9 feet) with local and political figures spans the years 1920-1963 and includes Benjamin Cardozo, Felix Frankfurter, Augustus Hand, Learned Hand, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Milton Friedman, James W. Moore, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harlan Stone. There is only a small amount of personal correspondence or papers from his law school career, either as student, professor or dean. (For this period, see the Yale University Archives.) There are, however, family records, financial papers, account books, photographs, biographical newspaper clippings and a bibliography of his work compiled by Solomon Smith in 1968.

Title:
Charles Edward Clark papers, 1907-1967 (inclusive), 1935-1963 (bulk).
The bulk of the papers date from 1935-1963 and reflect Clark's position as reporter on the United States Supreme Court's Advisory Committee on Rules for Civil Procedure (1935-1956) and as associate judge of the Court of Appeal for the Second Circuit (1939-1963). The papers contain his files for the Committee on Rules for Civil Procedure including preparatory papers, committee proceedings, rule draft reports and correspondence. His years on the Second Circuit Court are documented with complete case and motion files, docket books and correspondence. Also in the papers are extensive research files on law administration, automobile accidents, Puerto Rican courts and the reorganization of state departments in Connecticut.

Ambassador Auditorium Collection, 1974-1995
Title:
Ambassador Auditorium Collection 1974-1995
The Ambassador Auditorium Collection contains the files of the various organizational departments of the Ambassador Auditorium as well as audio and video recordings. The materials cover the entire time period of April 1974 through May 1995 when the Ambassador Auditorium was fully operational as an internationally recognized concert venue. The materials in this collection cover all aspects of concert production and presentation, including documentation of the concert artists and repertoire as well as many business documents, advertising, promotion and marketing files, correspondence, inter-office memos and negotiations with booking agents. The materials are widely varied and include concert program booklets, audio and video recordings, concert season planning materials, artist publicity materials, individual event files, posters, photographs, scrapbooks and original artwork used for publicity. Many of the print materials include handwritten comments from office personnel and administrators, and many of the artist photographs are autographed. Since the various office personnel maintained their own files, and the same information was often needed in more than one office at a time, the collection contains duplicate copies of many items. Although efforts were made to eliminate duplicate material from the same file or the same series, duplicate copies of items exist among the files from different offices. In an effort to maintain the original content of these files, the cross-file duplicate items were retained in the collection.
