Faculty Committee reports include those of a Special Faculty Committee of Review, which advised on the Heimlich-Finley cases, and the Faculty Committee of Review of the School of Law, to which the Glasser case was referred for review and recommendation for further action. Jones created these committees following the recommendation of the Trustee-Faculty-Alumni Committee of Review, appointed by Jones and chaired by Trustee Tracy S. Voorhees, that the professor's refusal to testify raised a question as to their fitness as teachers. Documentation also includes confidential correspondence from Finley to University Dean Herbert P. Woodward refuting the 1951 claims of former Communists Karl August Wittfogel and. William Martin Canning accusing him of being a Communist before a Congressional subcommittee; a letter to the Harvard Crimson from Harvard Law School Professors Zechariaha Chaffee, Jr. and Arthur R. Sutherland stressing the obligations of a citizen to testify before Congress; a copy of the Congressional Record which records James C. Auchincloss, representative of the Third Congressional District of New Jersey reading before Congress Jones' statement Academic Freedom and Civic Responsibility. Includes biographical and professional information on the professors; materials including newspaper articles, editorials, and correspondence relating to the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) and Association of American Law Schools (AALS) regarding their censure of Rutgers; and correspondence with other colleges and universities, various organizations, and individuals regarding requests for documentation on the cases.

Correpsondents include Harvard Law School Professors Zechariah Chaffee, Jr. and Arthur E. Sutherland, who wrote the letter to the Harvard Crimson arguing against the use of the Fifth Amendment before Congressional Committees, Henry R. Brandis, Jr., Chairman of the 1956 Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS), whose corrrespondence includes an enclosure of the Committee's review of the Glasser case, Ralph E. Himstead, General Secretary of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), Alfred E. Driscoll, the Governor of New Jersey, who strongly favored dismissal, and Provost Mason W. Gross, regarding locating a position for Finley at another university. Also included are confidential documents of University Dean Herbert P. Woodward regarding accusations against Finley before Congress by former Communists William Martin Canning and Karl August Wittfogel, and documentation on the dismissal of alleged Communist Myron L. Hoch, part-time Professor of Economics at Rutgers. Committees created by Jones to review the cases and advise further action include the Trustee-Faculty-Alumni Committee of Review, chaired by Trustee Tracy S. Voorhees. The Faculty Committee of Review of the Law School to advise on the Glasser case, chaired by Law Professor Arthur R. Lewis. Includes material relating to the personal and professional histories of the professors, reports of the academic Committees of Review, documentation on the University's censure by the AAUP and AALS, correspondence and editorials regarding the public's and the media's views on the cases. The records of the Vice Provost and Dean of the University, Albert E. Meder, consist of more than 13 cubic feet of papers. They are housed in forty manuscript boxes. The collections spans the years between 1917 and 1968 and relate to the many positions held by Meder at Rutgers. The majority of these papers reflect his administrative duties at Rutgers rather than his professorial duties. The collection largely consists of reports and correspondence. The collection has been divided into three series, which have been arranged alphabetically. The Subject Files series contains documents from 1933 to 1968. The series documents the many academic areas Meder was involved in at Rutgers, with files representing many academic departments and issues. This series also contains the Meder's files on the Middle States Association Evaluation in the 1950s and 1960s. The Committee Files series documents the many committees Meder served on and received reports from during his time at Rutgers. These files span between 1917, predating Meder's arrival at Rutgers, to 1968, the year of his departure. In some cases, the committee names reflect the growing concerns of the times, such as the War Curricula files from the mid 1940s and the Television files from the 1960s. Other more longstanding committee concerns include academic standards and personnel policy. The Name Files series contains the voluminous correspondence to and from Meder to many different members of the Rutgers community between 1943 and 1968. This series also contains memoranda Meder sent out to deans and department heads along with a large number of letters to and from President Mason W. Gross before and during tenures as provost and president of Rutgers.

Glasser's demand of a new hearing by the Board of Governors.

Title: Transcripts of hearings regarding the suspension of Abraham Glasser records, May-June 39, 1953.

The records consist of eight transcripts dated May-June, 1953 recording hearings before the Faculty Committee of Review of the School of Law regarding the suspension of Abraham Glasser. In the course of the hearings, The Committee followed a strict reading of President Jones' questions of whether Glasser had violated the fixed policy of the Board of Trustees, the governing body of the University at the time, concerning the Fifth. Amendment when questioned about Communist Party affiliation or membership, and whether there were any unusual circumstances which mitigated this violation. They considered the question of Glasser's fitness as a teacher and lawyer to be out of their scope. The transcripts record the Committee's investigation of Glasser's position as an attorney at the Department of Justice, from which he was suspended in 1941 on charges of Communism and espionage, the Justice Department's subsequent investigation of Glasser, and Glasser's motivations for his refusal to testify to certain questions before the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
