Lister, Alfred E.

This documents contains information on the descendants of John Colvin. John Colvin was born in England about 1655 and immigrated to Dartmouth, MA in 1675. He was married to Dorothy Allen and they were the parents of nine children. Their great-grandson, Philip Colvin (1758-1832) was born in Scituate, R.I. and served in the Revolutionary War. He married Sarah Berry (1757-1847) and they were the parents of eight children. In 1820 they moved from Rhode Island to Abington, PA where they lived on a farm in West Abington. Their children included: Mercy Colvin (1779-1865) who married James Nichols; Prudence Colvin (1783-1872) who married Samuel Stone; Anna Colvin (1784-1848) who married Lemuel Stone; Lovina Colvin (1785 - ) who married Mr. Green; Mary Colvin (1787 - ) who married Thomas Smith; Miriam Colvin (1789- ) who died young; Joseph Colvin (1791-1880) who married Eunice Wight; Rhoda Colvin (1794-1867) who married Arnold Franklin; and Cyrus Colvin (1799-1879) who married Phebe Northup, then Maria Dean.

Martha Slawson married Samuel Callender, a Revolutionary War Soldier whose will is found in Luzerne Co., PA. This document details her ancestry beginning with George Slawson ( - 1695), who came from England and was found in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1637 and went to Stamford, CT in 1642. His son, John Slawson, married Sarah Tuttle, of New Haven, Ct. in 1663. The document also considers the Tuttle line, beginning with William and Elizabeth Tuttle who arrived in Boston in 1635, and that of Martha's grandmother, Rose Stevens.

These four volumes contain miscellaneous notes by Alfred E. Lister collected on the Colvin and associated families. He begins Volume 1 August 21, 1909, with the note that the First Colvin Reunion was held at Northern Electric Park, Clark's Summit, PA. At that time information was collected and incorporated into a chart of family connections. On August 22, 1909, a trip to the family burial grounds provided additional information, taken from headstones found there, thus beginning four volumes of documentation on the Colvin family.

In 1820 Philip Colvin (1759-c1832), with his wife Sarah (1757-1847), sons Joseph Colvin and Cyrus Colvin, and daughters Polly Colvin, Mercy Colvin and Anna Colvin with her husband Elemuel Stone from Rhode Island, settled in a western part of Abington Township, Luzerne County (now near Factoryville, Lackawanna County) PA. Polly Colvin married Thomas Smith, Mercy Colvin married James Nichols, and Cyrus Colvin married Miss Phoebe Northrop. These documents contain sketches of their descendants and related families.
