Dean of Canterbury Cathedral.

Born in India, he studied at King's College, London, and then became a fellow at Trinity College, Cambridge. From his position as headmaster of Marborough College he went to Westminister as canon in 1876 and was made dean in 1883. He was appointed dean of Canterbury in 1895.
