Composer, pianist, conductor and singer.

Carreño was born in Venezeuela, the daughter of composer and musician Manuel Antonio Carreño. As a child she went to New York to study with Louis Gottschalk; she later studied with Mathias and Anton Rubenstein. For over thirty years she lived and taught in Germany, where her career was particularly successful.
