Gansevoort, Peter, 1749-1812
Variant namesOfficer in the Revolutionary War. Gansevoort commanded Fort Stanwix during it's seige in 1777 and was eventually promoted to brigadier general of the New York State Militia. He also served as a United States Commissioner of Indian Affairs and was a regent of the University of the State of New York.
