Henry Wharton Shoemaker was a newspaper columnist, publisher and president of the Altoona (Pa.) Times Tribune from 1912 to 1950. He served as a member of the board of the Pennsylvania Historical Commission from 1923 to 1940 and as Director of the Pennsylvania state archives from 1937 to 1948. He authored several books and numerous articles and brochures on Pennsylvania folklore, folksongs, ethnology and history.
