Linus Yale manufactured his first lock at Shelburne Falls, Mass. in 1851, known as the "Yale Infallible Bank Lock." He improved this lock between 1851 and 1860; received a patent for a "Cylinder Lock" in 1861; and, with Henry R. Towne established the Yale Lock Manufacturing Company in 1868, with a plant in Stamford, Connecticut.
