She was involved in many spheres of political and social activity including the Labour Party, Fabianism, social observation, investigations into poverty, development of socialism, the foundation of the National Health Service and post war welfare state, the London School of Economics, and the New Statesman .

Beatrice Webb (1858 - 1943). Fabian Socialist, social reformer, writer, historian, diarist. Wife, collaborator and assistant of Sidney Webb, later Lord Passfield. Together they contributed to the radical ideology first of the Liberal Party and later of the Labour Party.

Beatrice Webb was an author and social activist; in conjunction with her husband, Sidney Webb, she wrote and worked to improve social conditions in England. As members of the Fabian Society, the Webbs were friendly with H.G. Wells, George Bernard Shaw, Virginia Woolf, and others. Among many accomplishments, the couple prepared a history of local British governments, wrote on law, politics, and other topics, conducted research, and gave speeches. Beatrice Webb was accounted a fine literary stylist, and together they were Britain's most important Socialists.

Beatrice was the 8th daughter of Richard Potter and Laurencina Heyworth. Her grandfather was Richard Potter, radical MP for Wigan; her father was a wealthy railroad entrepreneur. In 1892 she married Sidney Webb. Both were very active in the social reform movement in Britain.
