"Col. Thomas Lowndes Snead... was born in Henrico County, Va., Jan. 10, 1828. He was graduated from Richmond College in 1846 and the University of Virginia in 1848, and afterward studied law. He moved to St. Louis in 1850... In 1861 Mr. Snead was appointed aide de camp of Gen. Claiborne F. Jackson... In 1866 he was admitted to the bar of New-York." -- Obituary, Thomas L. Snead.
