Papers by and about Rankin and his work as an abolitionist. Includes 31 page statement by Rankin (as pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ripley, Ohio) in defense of students at Lane Seminary beginning an anti-slavery society (written 1835.) Also essays by Rankin's children, re. their father and his work with the under-ground railroad. Rankin began the first anti-slavery society in Ohio in 1835 and Ripley became the first stop in the under-ground railroad.
