Widow of Sydney Howard Gay, Garrisonian abolitionist of the l840s, from West New Brighton, N.Y., to a friend (perhaps daughter of William Lloyd Garrison) about "the malignant Birney book" (Wm. Birney, "James G. Birney and his times, 1890"), and interested in George William Curtis's attitude. Enclosure quotes "Mr. Furness's letter" (probably William Henry Furness, 1802-1896.).
