Letters home of two brothers from Somerset, PA, who were officers with the U.S. Navy. Chester M. Knepper letters, 1884, 1895-1900, 1917, were written while on a tour of duty in east Asia. Orlo Knepper letters, 1892, 1898-1900, mainly relate to his service with George Dewey's Asiatic Squadron and include detailed observations on the Spanish defeat at Manila Bay, the United States occupation of the Phillippine Islands, and the war between the U.S. and the Phillippine "insurgents."
