Samuel Reed Shaner was born in Zieglerville, Pa., on 1 May 1884. He married Delilah Mae Glasser in 1917; they had three daughters. Shaner died of myocardial infarction on 10 Aug. 1960. Shaner received an M.D. from the Medico-Chirurgical College of Philadelphia in 1916 and also received the James M. Anders Gold Medal Award for medical case reporting.
