Documents relating to arbitration proceedings between John B. R. Cooper and Luis A. Argüello. Letters, accounts and memorandum of suggested settlement, also signed by Antonio J. Cot, relating to dispute between Argüello, the owner, and Cooper, the captain, of the schooner Rover, over expenditures incurred during the ship's voyage to Canton in 1824 and operations afterwards in California.

Biography William Edward Petty Hartnell, born in Lancashire, England in 1798, lived in South America for some years, and came to California aboard the John Begg as a member of McCulloch, Hartnell & Co., agents for John Begg & Co. of Lima and Brotherston's in England.
