Miscellaneous papers and correspondence of Henry Helmuth covering his college studies, legal practice, and civic engagements. The collection contains items that deal with local politics, including events leading to Philadelphia Act of Consolidation (1854), and the affairs of the University of Pennsylvania, including a conflict that involved Rev. Henry Helmuth studied law at the University of Pennsylvania in the 1820's. He then practiced law in Philadelphia and was active in the local politics. He was a member and the clerk of Moyamensing city council, a trustee of the Broad Street Methodist Church, and member of a local Democratic caucus.
