Miscellaneous reports on black powder and other accidental explosions at Du Pont facilities, including a history of explosions at the Brandywine Works (1815-1898) and the Carney's Point Works (1893-1903). Also included are copies of a union contract with the United Powder and High Explosives Workers of America, Local No. 107, Jermyn, Pa. (1909), and notes on the closing of the Belin Works, the last Du Pont black powder facility, in 1973-73.

The family firm of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company was established in 1802 and during the 19th century it became one of the United States' most important manufacturers of black powder. In 1902 three younger du Pont cousins: T. Coleman, Alfred I., and Pierre S. took over the company and within three years succeeded in bringing 75% of the American explosives industry (which at that time included black powder, dynamite, and smokeless powder) under their control.
